Steps to Get Utah Driver`s License
1) At the Social Security Office

a) Walk-in at the Social Security Office in Provo: 88 W 100 N, Provo, UT 84601. They are opened Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9:00am to 4:00pm and Wednesday 9:00am to 12:00 Phone(866) 366-9549

b) Take with you the following documents:

  • Your Passport
  • Your I-20
  • Provide two (2) documents of Utah residence address
  • Internexus Letter

At the Social Security office, you will receive a letter stating that you are able to enter the process to get your driver’s license.

2) At the DMV

a) Walk-in at the Driver License Offices – Provo:

Provo, Utah 84606
Hours: Monday – Friday
8:00am to 5:00pm

b) Photo will be taken.

c) If you have a drive license from your country, carry with you (which you will surrender upon application) in order to avoid having to carry a learner permit for 90 days and completing the online Traffic Safety and Trends Exam.

d) Provide proof of identity (your Passport).  Provide the Letter that you received at the social security Office.  Provide two (2) documents of Utah residence address. Provide your I-20.

f) Pass the eye (vision) test.

g) Pass a written knowledge test and driving skills test (one or both may be required.)

h) Submit a nonrefundable fee of $32.00 if 21 and older; $39.00 for provisional (20 and under.)

If the name from your driver license or identity card is different than the name on your identity document (e.g., birth certificate, passport) it must be accompanied by legal documentation authorizing the name change.  These include a certified state marriage certificate, divorce decree, adoption, citizenship, guardianship, or court documents indicating the name change.
